Step Up to the Plate

Unwin Jones Partnership is delighted to be again supporting Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland with their fantastic fundraising initiative ‘Step Up to the Plate’.

In 2019 we sponsored the inaugural Step up to the Plate – The Foodie Way, a 20+ mile walk around the beautiful Ullswater. #teamUJP had a fantastic day and in the process the group helped Hospice at Home raise almost £30,000.

Regrettably the event was cancelled in 2020, however this year we are delighted to be co-sponsoring Step up to the Plate – The Second Course with our friends at Westwood Landscape.

The 2021 event will see walkers depart from Greenhead and walk back to Carlisle’s Rickerby Park along the Hadrian’s Wall route. The walk will be held on 11 September 2021.

Why not walk with us?

Step Up to The Plate is a day of sponsored walks long the Hadrian’s Wall Path organised by Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, a local Charity that provides care and support to patients in their own homes, at the end stages of life. The first event in the Step Up to the Plate series took place in 2019 and was a great success. ‘The Second Course’ was originally planned for July 2020 but had to be postponed until 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Hospice at Home hope to see participants returning to take part in this fundraiser in a new location following a very difficult year for the charity and the country alike. Step Up To The Plate, The Second Course: The Roman Route is an event open to all, and offers two lengths of walk approx. 22 miles or 8.5 miles. Both distances require stamina, energy and training to fully enjoy the day.

Jez Marvin, director at Unwin Jones Partnership, said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring Step up to the Plate – The Second Course. As a business we are committed to supporting causes that directly benefit members of the local community which include our friends, families, employees and clients. Hospice at Home provide an incredibly important service to those with palliative and end of life care needs and so it’s our pleasure to sponsor this fantastic event to help raise funds and awareness for such a vital cause. The team is looking forward to joining Hospice at Home, our friends at Westwood Landscape and the many Hospice at Home supporters along the route for this special challenge. We wish the best of luck to all those who take part.”

Julie Blundell, Head of Income Generation and Marketing for Hospice at Home, said: “The Step up to the Plate challenge in 2019 was highly successful and we want to build on that in 2021. This year we have chosen to walk part of the Hadrian’s wall route from Greenhead to Carlisle. We encourage families, friends and work colleagues with or without their dogs to get involved; you can be assured your commitment and generosity will help make a difference to future local patients, families and carers.”

The marshalled event is supported by a range of local eateries with samples of Cumbrian delicacies being offered along the route and a hearty meal at the midpoint.

The event is dog friendly.
